In the Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) system, the car owner is a Malaysian. They called up Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) to check, it says that I'm still a Malaysian but I'm already in Malaysia using Singapore passport and I haven't obtain my borang K because JPN haven't process my renunciation yet. I was having dual nationality during that period of time technically speaking.
Once having the borang K, selling the car was easy. This is what you need to bring
- Original borang K
- Photocopy of borang K (front & back)
- Singapore passport
- Photocopy of passport (biodata page only)
Hi Kevin, great tips, thank you. I'm assuming you are able to get around doing the sale of the car with just Borang K and Singapore Passport. What about banks, properties and EPF withdrawal? Is the Singaporean IC required? Thanks, Joy
ReplyDeleteHi Joy, yes, selling of the car went smoothly with borang K and Singapore passport. As for banks, you will need to have an existing account before you renounce, else you won't be able to open an account anymore.
DeleteI have not complete my EPF withdrawal yet. The previous time I went back, the bank account was unable to change my NRIC number from Malaysia number to Singapore number. CIMB bank requires 3 days just to change a simple number and I was told that Maybank is able to change that immediately. Not sure how true that is.
Will post more about EPF withdrawal once it is done.
Hi, I am going to renounce Malaysian citizenship next week. But, with the weak current Malaysia market I cannot sell my property house before converting to Singaporean. Also, if can I wish to keep it but worry will be in trouble to sell it in future. Do you know how is the process to sold property (house) which registered under Malaysian citizenship? By using borang K and passport to proof identity? (Property registered under Malaysian citizenship).
ReplyDeleteHi Karen,
DeleteYes, borang K is sufficient for you to sell the house after you obtain your Singapore citizenship. My friend did that and it went smoothly. I'm unable to advice you on the details of the process. You probably need to consult a property agent in Malaysia.
Hi Kevin,
ReplyDeleteDo you have any idea how to transfer Malaysia car ownership to a relative? Just Borang K and the Car Card? FYI, the car still under loan.
Btw, your post really help to ease the process. Thank you very much.
Hi Dave, I am unsure about the loan part as my car was fully paid up during the time of the ownership transfer.
DeleteMy best guess would your relative will need to take up a new loan and that his/her loan will pay up your present loan. Your bank probably will also need your borang K and your Singapore passport as proof of identity.
By the way, JPJ upgraded. No more car card these days. They will only issue a paper slip. Car card now is now electronically kept in their system.
Hope you are able to sell your car without issues.
Hi Kevin,
DeleteThanks. I've actually summarized your Renunciation Malaysia Citizenship process and put it into 1 simple flow chart. Do you mind if i share it in here? it's a link to one of my cloud account. Btw, need everyone to verify the process as well.
Hi Dave,
DeleteWow! You actually went and draw one up? Go ahead and share, don't let your effort go to waste.
Hi Kevin,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips. All the efforts are from you. I just simplified it into 1 flow chart. Anyway, some of the things are missing especially the SG passport application timeline, the estimated waiting time for all the processes and EPF withdrawal process. I can update the flow chart provided you have the info.
Hi Dave,
DeleteI applied for Singapore passport online after oath of renunciation in ICA
Here you go. Perhaps you can create a new post for the benefit of all the newly approved future Singaporean. ;)

DeleteGreat. I just added the Singapore Passport timeline into the flow chart.
DeleteHi kevin,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sharing post. Between your shared post, did you know singaporean with singapore driving license whether legally drive malaysia register vehicle in malaysia?
hi Hazel,
DeleteTechnically it would be illegal to drive a Malaysia registered vehicle in Malaysia with a foreign driving license unless the car is a rented car, rented as you as driver.
If I want to retain the car in Malaysia, should I go to jpj to update my new nationality before renew road tax and insurance?
ReplyDeleteIf I want to retain my Msia car but I have gotten Singaporean citizenship. Should I go to update JPJ side?
