Citizenship Ceremony

Finally! I obtained by pink NRIC. You will require to wait for the letter from ICA inviting you to the ceremony. The letter look somewhat like this below.

You are allowed to bring a guest or family member along but they will not be seated together with you. They will be seated at the rear of the hall together with the rest of the other guests.

Don't need to be kiasu and reach there too early, reach on time will do. The event has been designed for late comers, I'm guessing that is why dinner is served first. The ceremony starts only after the buffet dinner.

Not the whole place at Mountbatten CC is air conditioned. They set up a tent with evaporative air coolers and not all the air coolers are in working air condition. While Singapore is in equator with its hot and humid weather, having a tie put on will definitely make you perspire.

    1. Hi Penny,
I don't think so, because in order to convert you need to go to JPJ to get the JPJ extract which is a report of how many accidents you were involved during the duration you had your driving license.

If you are already holding Singapore NRIC, that means you do not have a valid Malaysia driving license anymore.

    2. You will need to take their local test. If i'm not wrong, only the theory test.

    1. hi,
They will only send you this letter when there is an upcoming ceremony. I think I got this letter two months after I have my borang K based on the time line of my blog post.

  4. Hi Kevin,

I just registered for Sg citizenship and passport.
I'm not sure what are the sequence next.

    1. Hi, why do you need to prove to Malaysia that you have attended the ceremony? You can only attend the ceremony after you obtain your Borang K. Malaysia already know you have successfully renounced if they returned you the borang K.

    2. You will need to request for Certified true copy of your Citizenship Certificate and NRIC from ICA. Call them to inform and you can collect at level 6 of ICA after 2 weeks. You will need both the certified docs to collect your form K

  5. Hi, can you advice what to do if I am unable to attend the scheduled citizenship ceremony ? Will they be able to reschedule me to attend the other ceremony session on later date ? Who should I contact regarding this issue ? ICA or People Association or the respected GRC (organiser of the citizenship ceremony)?

    1. Hi Vivien,
I would think its best to notify them about your unavailability to attend the ceremony. My best guess is to contact ICA about it.

  7. I think it is due to the new duration of complete renunciation (8 months now as stated in MY-RN1 form, previously was shorter). I took my oath at ICA in Feb and earlier this month I got a letter from ICA to attend the Citizenship Ceremony in July. Guess we have to wait till Borang K is released then we can do epf withdrawal and property conversion in Malaysia, even though we have obtained our IC and citizenship cert.
